AMHERST — Another 25 noise bylaw tickets, each with a potential fine of up to $300, were issued by police over the weekend to college-age people as officers continued to handle loud parties and assorted noise complaints.
So far this fall semester, police issued 30 tickets during the three-day Labor Day weekend, and handed out an additional 22 tickets the following weekend.
In addition to the tickets, police also made arrests for violations of the noise bylaw, with four men between the ages of 18 and 21 taken into custody at a Lincoln Avenue home at 4:28 a.m. Saturday. Three additional men, found asleep in the home, are being summoned to court for the same offense.
Drinking games were being played at some of the homes, while few of the residents and their guests were wearing masks or social distancing and ran afoul of COVID-19 guidelines, according to call logs supplied by the police department.
