■The Massachusetts Audubon Society at Arcadia recently collected more than 200 gallons of pesticides as a part of their statewide TV campaign to dispose of the dangerous chemicals. Robie Hubley of Arcadia, reported that the drums have been transported to a storage bunker in Cohasset, pending completion of a special high-temperature incinerator in Whitman.

■The Look Park Picnic Store, boats and train will be open for the final day of operation on Sunday. The Streamliner train carried 75,000 passengers in 1970 around the three-fourth mile track which brought the total passengers carried since opening in 1948 to 1,736,049.

■Police from Northampton and five area colleges participated in a three-day bike patrol training program organized by Smith College last weekend. The college is set to begin its first bike patrols later this month.

■The year-old Mass Ventures Corp. on Wednesday selected C. Eva Thompson as its first senior vice president and chief operating officer. Mass Ventures is a private, nonprofit development corporation initiated in 1994 by the University of Massachusetts and the Pioneer Valley Economic Council to foster the growth of technology-based businesses in western Massachusetts.
