■The Northampton High School Green Room Players will present “The Mouse That Roared” on Thursday and Friday. The principal cast is: Deborah Chickering as Gloriana; Geoffrey Bingham as Tully Bascom; Thomas Fisher as Count Mountjoy; Andrew Laband as Mr. Bender; David Tornow as the President; Charles Lennon as The Secretary of State; Paul Moser as Professor Kokintz,; and William Murry as General Shippet.

■Employees of the Belchertown State School have appealed to a special legislative commission for help in getting rid of cockroaches at the school. Terming the problem a public health menace, Sen. Philip A. Quinn of Spencer requested that “immediate action be taken to correct this situation.”

■What had been widely presumed is now a fact: Senate President William M. Bulger tops a search committee’s short-list for University of Massachusetts president. Earlier Monday, Bulger confirmed for the first time that he was a candidate for the presidency and said he wanted to make it the best of its kind in the country.

■A vision of a regional performing arts high school located amid Hadley’s cornfields and pastures is taking shape. A 62-page preliminary application for charter school status has been delivered by local organizers to the state Department of Education.

■It was Midnight Madness Thursday night at the Cinemark Theaters in Hadley as the seventh movie in the Harry Potter series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” hit six screens starting at 12:01 Friday morning. All the shows were sold out weeks ago. Over 1,000 tickets were sold.

■Three senior prosecutors and three academics will make up the transition team for David Sullivan, who will be sworn in as the next Northwestern district attorney Jan. 5. The volunteer group will help Sullivan select lawyers to prosecute criminal cases in Hampshire and Franklin counties and Athol, as well as help implement community outreach programs and advisory boards.
