HOLYOKE — A 25-year-old Holyoke man was killed in a single-car crash Wednesday night after the vehicle he was driving went off Southampton Road, according to the Hampden County district attorney’s office.

The man, whose name is not being released, was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle when the accident occurred at 10:30 p.m., James Leydon, spokesman for the district attorney’s office, wrote in an email.

The Holyoke Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Hampden district attorney’s office responded to the crash, where the man was dead at the scene, Leydon said.

The Holyoke Fire Department earlier reported the man had to be extricated using hydraulic equipment and was transported to an emergency room in serious condition.

State and local police investigations are continuing.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni and Holyoke Police Chief Manuel Febo offer their sympathies to the victim’s family, Leydon said. He said the DA’s office does not release names of accident victims unless there is a criminal case.
