A.T. Turner will take over as the UMass Director of Sports Performance, UMass coach Walt Bell announced Friday.
He was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Florida last season and had stops at Iowa State, Maryland and Mississippi State.
“I am extremely honored to join Walt Bell and the UMass football staff,” said Turner. “I believe in Coach Bell’s vision for this program and am excited to continue to build upon the culture and standards he has set for this program.”
Turner is replacing the departed Matt Shadeed, who was named the Director of Athletic Performance at South Alabama on Thursday.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science from Malone University (Ohio) in 2015, where he played on the football team. Turner has National Strengthand Conditioning Association and Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association certifications.
BRENNEMAN RISING COACHING RANKS — Former UMass tight end Adam Brenneman was named Arizona State’s tight ends coach Friday. The former All-American, who retired from playing prior to the 2018 NFL draft due to worsening knee injuries, was a graduate assistant with the Sun Devils last season.
“One of my responsibilities as a football coach is to develop young coaches in the profession,” Arizona State coach Herm Edwards said in a release. “Adam is one of the brightest young coaches in our business. He’s very smart and super enthusiastic. He’s proven to be a tireless recruiter.”
