AMHERST — Amherst is holding its first-ever Lunar New Year celebration Tuesday.
Also known as the Spring Festival, the virtual event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a reading of a proclamation the Town Council is expected to adopt the evening before.
The proclamation urges all residents to join the 15-day celebration of the Year of the Ox beginning Feb. 12. The new year starts on the second new moon after the winter solstice.
As part of the event, Lily Soh, pastor of Chinese ministry at First Baptist Church, will share a traditional story of how Lunar New Year came about and customs that have emerged in the tradition.
More information about the event can be found online at https://www.amherstma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2816.
