Massachusetts State Police are investigating the identity of a driver who was reportedly traveling at 110 to 120 mph on Interstate 91 northbound throughout Franklin County on Monday morning.
According to Massachusetts State Police spokesperson David Procopio, a trooper with the Northampton barracks stopped a black Nissan Maxima near mile-marker 36 in Whately for having license plates registered to and belonging to a different vehicle. At about 10:45 a.m., the Maxima reportedly drove away from the traffic stop and a pursuit was authorized.
Vermont State Police were notified of the pursuit heading toward their state, but the pursuit was ended after roughly 20 miles. According to Procopio, no troopers or local police officers with tire-deflation devices were in a position to assist in stopping the vehicle.
Anyone with information on the driver’s identity is encouraged to call the Shelburne Falls State Police barracks at 413-625-6311.
