Filippo Begliardi Ghidini and Ben Shepherd ensured that the UMass men’s soccer team started the 2021 season on the right foot, each scoring a goal in a 2-0 win at Northeastern on Wednesday.

The game was played at Parsons Field in Brookline.

Quinn Serafino assisted Shepherd, who gave the Minutemen the lead in the 46th minute on a strike from outside the box.

Ghidini converted from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.

Belchertown grad Evan Fournier played 18 minutes for UMass.

UMass keeper Marvyn Dorchin finished with four saves on the night.

UMass heads to play at UVM on Saturday at 2 p.m.
