EASTHAMPTON — A house on Church Street remains uninhabitable after a fire last Friday.
The two-story, single-family residence at 40 Church St. caught fire at around noon, causing significant damage to the house. A cause has yet to be determined, according to the Easthampton Fire Department.
The blaze led to “the complete loss of the attached garage and the back of the house and heavy damage to the kitchen area on the first floor,” Easthampton Fire Capt. Kevin Benson said.
Though fire crews responded to the call within two minutes, the flames had quickly spread through the inside walls and other cavities. A neighboring house also sustained heat damage from the fire.
“Some of the belongings in the house were salvageable,” Benson said. “Whether the home itself is salvageable will be up to the insurance company.”
The fire remains under investigation by the Easthampton fire and police departments, as well as the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Red Cross became involved with the incident, according to Easthmapon Police Lt. Dennis Scribner, and assisted the homeowner in obtaining clothing and other essential items. Scribner and Benson said they did not know where that individual is currently staying.
The property is owned by Reymanuel Sola, according to Hampshire County land records.
