An offensive outburst led the UMass softball team to a doubleheader sweep at Bryant on Tuesday.
The Minutewomen (2-2) won 15-6 in six innings in the first game and 10-2 in five in the second. They opened with 10 unanswered runs in Game 1. Caroline Deem drove in four runs on three hits, including a homer.
Juliana Shields launched a three-run homer in Game 2. Amy Smith and Bella Pantoja each drove in two runs, while Hannah Bunker had two hits and and RBI.
Jessie DiPasquale punched out 16 batters across the two games for UMass.
Albany 13, UMass 12 – The Minutemen’s fourth-quarter rally fell a goal short. They scored five goals in the final frame and eight in the second half.
UMass’ Mike Tobin tied the game at 12 with 3 minutes, 27 seconds left unassisted, but Albany’s Chris Ryan netted the game-winner with 1:59 on the clock.
Gabriel Procyk scored four times for the Minutemen (2-1), while Devin Spencer added four assists. Dillon Arrant added a hat trick.
Matt Knote saved 10 shots.
