Justin Forest scored 22 points to move within 2 short of 1,000 for his Hampshire Regional boys basketball career. The Raiders defeated Southwick 61-37 on Tuesday in Southwick. They face Northampton at 6 p.m. Thursday in Westhampton.
Hampshire led 33-30 in the closing seconds of the first half when Forest intercepted a pass and raced down the floor for a layup. That sparked an 18-3 run encompassing the entire third quarter that put the game out of reach.
Freshman Jamil Rodriguez scored 10 points and dominated the offensive glass.
“He’s going to be a monster,” Hampshire coach Lee Mollison said of Rodriguez.
Fellow freshman Dylan Rohan added 16 points with two 3s.
Granby 59, Monson 49 — Nate Breault led the Rams with 13 points in a road victory.
Ryan Gaughan scored 12, and Brandon Wishard had 10 points.
Granby used a big 25-point second quarter to build a lead and keep Monson at bay.
Hampshire 56, Southwick 10 – Maggie Rubeck had a double-double on senior night for the Raiders. She scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Maddie Pond had 10 points and hit two 3s.
Ten Raiders found their way to the score sheet.
Monson 56, Granby 28 – Ella Laliberte had 17 points for the Rams on the road
Frontier 3, Hopkins 1 — The Redhawks put two in the back of the net in the first half and tallied a third in the second half to earn a 3-1 win over the Golden Hawks on Thursday in South Deerfield.
Cambrie Hamilton scored the first goal for Frontier, putting one home in the second minute off an assist from Hannah Mackin.
Freshman Madeline Barnett tallied the second goal for the Redhawks, scoring in the 16th minute off a pass from Grace O’Leary.
O’Leary put Frontier up 3-0 in the 52nd minute, shooting the corner kick directly into the goal. Helen Vissas had the lone strike for Hopkins, scoring in the 60th minute with the assist going to Tia Fyden.
C.C. Green stopped eight shots in goal for the Redhawks.
