Trailing 6-1 in the fourth inning, Frontier baseball coach Chris Williams wanted to see some fire from his team during Saturday’s independent tilt against Amherst.

The Redhawks showed their skipper something, alright.

Frontier rallied in the waning innings, using a six-run bottom of the sixth inning to come all the way back for an 11-6 victory over the Hurricanes in South Deerfield.

“We now know that we can come from behind late in games,” offered Williams of his team’s response to the deficit. “At any inning, we can explode for a bunch of runs. When it comes tournament time, I think that’s going to be a good thing for us to remember.”

Frontier (4-0) scored three times in the fifth and pushed across six more in the sixth to rally. In the sixth, Ben Martino’s two-run triple put the Hawks on top, and Kevin Baumann added a two-run single later in the frame to pad the lead.

Martino continued his hot start to the season at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple, double and two RBIs. Sam Schreiber was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Liam Skribiski-Banack was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Skribiski-Banack picked up the win in relief for Frontier, striking out three in 4 1/3 innings out of the pen. Amherst scored four runs in the second inning, chasing starter Jake Dodge from the game.

“I think we were still confident for the most part. We let up five walks in the second inning and four of those five scored so we felt like if we could stop giving away runs, we’d be OK,” Williams explained.

Amherst’s Nate Mills and Aryeh Rubinstein had key hits for the visitors. Thatcher Rudnick reached base all four times for the ’Canes.
