Dylan Moriarty hit a walk-off single in extra innings, and the Granby baseball team beat Monson 5-4 in eight innings at home Thursday.
The Rams entered the bottom of the eighth trailing by a run. Michael Toth led off with a single, then his brother Raymond Toth dropped a sacrifice bunt to move him to second. Nolan Sullivan slapped an awkward ground ball into the infield, and as Michael Toth rounded third the Monson second baseman couldn’t field the ball cleanly to catch Michael Toth in a rundown. He missed the throw to try and get Sullivan out at first, and Michael Toth tied the game at 4.
After an error and a strikeout put runners at first and second, Moriarty drove in Sullivan with a base hit to right field to win the game.
Sullivan was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He also started the game and struck out six in five innings of work.
Raymond Toth picked up the win in relief, throwing three innings with three strikeouts.
Belchertown 6, Frontier 2 – Eli Sayball-Wimmer had two RBIs and a triple, as the Orioles won at home to snap a three-game losing streak. Chris Misiaszek singled twice and scored two runs, while Brady Perkins (d0uble) had two hits. Andrew Fijal doubled and scored two runs.
Misiaszek picked up the win, striking out six in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed just two hits and two runs.
Kevin Baumann singled twice for Frontier. Kyle Barnes and Shane Prusak each had an RBI as the Hawks dropped their first of 2021.
Smith Vocational 7, Westfield Tech 5 – Cole Boisvert had three hits including a double and drove in two runs, as the Vikings won on the road. He also scored two runs. Smith Vocational scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good.
Caelan Finni singled twice. Dylan Fil (RBI) and Marshall Ingram both doubled for the Vikings.
Smith Vocational’s Race Drobiak struck out 10 to earn the win.
Franklin Tech 9, Gateway 6 — The Gators scored four runs in the sixth to pull within striking distance after trailing 9-2.
Southwick 19, Hampshire 1 (5) – Tyler Vanasse hit an RBI double on the road for the Raiders.
Chicopee 6, Northampton 5 – Ella Pelis went 2-for-3 and stole a base for the Blue Devils in a road loss.
Molly Allen and Tara O’Connor each doubled. Northampton’s Kaliya Valentin struck out five in the circle.
Franklin Tech 16, Amherst 4 (5) — Maria Konieczny struck out six in the circle for the Hurricanes, adding an RBI single on the offensive end. Vivi Bernier had a pair of hits and Steph Barton singled in the loss.
Turners Falls 13, Frontier 1 (5) – The Red Hawks loaded the bases in the top of the third but could only push one across.
Ashley Taylor singled, Makayla Santos reached on an error that scored Taylor, Olivia Deane singled and CC Green was hit by a pitch.
Charlotte Doulette struck out, then Lucia Doulette flew out, but the ball nearly made its way over the fence.
