Andrew Cowles fired seven aces to go along with two kills and three assists, as the Belchertown boys volleyball team bested Chicopee 3-1 at home Friday.

The Orioles rallied to win the first set 25-23 then took a 2-0 lead with a 25-21 win in Set 2. Chicopee kept the match a live with a 25-20 victory in the third set. Belchertown closed the match out with a 25-12 flourish in the fourth.

Troy Pelletier added three kills, four aces and six assists.

Connor White led Belchertown with four kills, and Will Hill contributed six aces.

Girls lacrosse

Wahconah 15, Amherst 6 – Jill Crosby scored two goals with an assist for the Hurricanes on Thursday.

Emily Ireland and Caitlin McDougal each added a goal and an assist. Jenna Schilling and Esme Siegl had one goal each for Amherst.

Boys tennis

Belchertown 5, Ludlow 0 — The Orioles flexed their depth at home. Trevor Weiss bested Hayden Potorski 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Kiernan Cornish beat Ryan Gomes 6-1, 6-0.

Joseph Bianco swept Lucas Gonsalves 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Jacob Chaisson and Mike Alves handled Owen O’Shea and Sam Grywalski 6-1, 6-2.

Jack Hold and Cal Orzech won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles over Sam Pontes and Niko Coelho.

Girls tennis

Belchertown 3, Ludlow 2 — The top of the Orioles lineup kept them unbeaten. Belchertown’s No. 1 doubles team of Megan Gilman and Olivia Vogel secured the victory in a three-set comeback. They dropped the first set 4-6 to Emma Serisser and Nina Gomers before rallying 6-4 in the second and 6-2 in the third.

At No. 1 singles, Natalie Nowakowski beat Malina Dinis 6-3, 6-3. Ava Shea defeated Jessica Morgado 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Sabis 3, PVCICS 2 — The Dragons fell in a tight home match Thursday. Charlotte Kelly prevailed at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 against Remie Jerard, while Juliet Scott beat Anh Nguyen 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3.
