WESTFIELD — The 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base will conduct day and night operations during a training exercise from Thursday through Saturday.
Barnes says the exercise is critical to maintaining the highest degree of readiness to execute its mission in the community, and anywhere in the world when called upon. The training event will allow all of the elements of the wing to hone their skills in support of both state and federal missions.
The base announced the exercise to ensure residents are forewarned, because there will be simulated smoke, weapons fire and explosions on and near the base in support of the exercise.
Base pilots also will be conducting critical training during the exercise, flying more frequently than normal on these days.
