■A 44-unit housing for the elderly project is planned for the corner of Main and School streets in Hatfield. In about two or three months, applications for the apartments will be accepted. Completion date of the facility is next fall.

■The Open-Campus Committee of Northampton High School met this week to continue discussion and development of an Open-Campus policy for the high school. Since misconceptions may remain in the minds of parents, Principal John Feeney stressed that Open-Campus provides an expanded educational program during study time.

■Agawam is the top choice for a state cemetery for veterans of World War II and the Korean War, according to a consultant’s draft report. The report, issued last week, recommends the 50-acre Agawam site over a proposed Westover Air Reserve Base location in Chicopee.

■Artist Lee Scagel York’s slightly fanciful rendering of the Lilly Library has come out of private display — in her brother’s home — and is now gracing cards and prints. The pieces are being sold to help build the small library’s local history and reference holdings.

■When the University of Massachusetts football team leaves McGuirk Stadium for the last time Saturday for at least two years, the impact will be felt far beyond the field. Starting next season, the Minutemen will call Gillette Stadium in Foxborough home, a move that could deprive area businesses of the revenue from game-day crowds that occupy bar stools and hotel rooms in the run-up and aftermath of kickoff.

■The redevelopment of the former state hospital grounds reached another milestone this month with the completion of the Morningside and Eastview housing enclaves at what is now known as Village Hill Northampton. “We now have a neighborhood here,” said acting Mayor David J. Narkewicz during a celebration Friday in Beech Tree Park nearby. “Just incredible.”
