■Dr. William A. Yorzyk, graduate of Northampton High School, will be admitted to the swimming hall of fame in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., this week. Yorzyk won a gold medal in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia.

■One of downtown Northampton’s oldest buildings, at 138-140 Main St., which houses Ryback’s Bakery, will be purchased by William W. Streeter, owner of Harlow Luggage Store. The building is at least 100 years old and may be much older.

■WFCR has hired Nancy Cohen as the new director for news and information programming. Cohen succeeds Bob Paquette, who served as interim news director for a year after former director Pippin Ross left the position in February.

■Diane Sievers of Northampton has been named assistant vice president in the Pension Management division at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Springfield. A native of Walnut, Iowa, she is a graduate of the Western New England College School of Law. She joined MassMutual in 1986.

■Traprock Peace Center has found a new place in the community in a collaboration with Greenfield Community College. Traprock was located at Woolman Hill, a Quaker retreat and conference center in Deerfield, from the time it was founded in 1979 until 2007, when it had to leave the property. The present goal is to form the Traprock Peace Education Center at GCC by the end of next year.

■A Southampton native will be among the 25 women vying for one man when the 16th season of “The Bachelor” premieres on ABC Monday night. Rachel Truehart, 27, and 24 other women contended for the affection of bachelor Benjamin Flajnik. He ultimately chose one lucky lady, but the results will not be revealed until the season finale.
