CUMMINGTON – Police are searching for two suspects in connection with an audacious attempt to steal an ATM from outside of the Old Creamery Co-op.
According to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, a passerby called 911 shortly before 2 a.m. on Friday to report that a white Econoline van was backed up next to the creamery with a chain attached to the Florence Bank ATM. However, when police arrived on the scene, nobody was found, according to the DA’s office, although the van was still there.
Police later learned that the van had been reported stolen by police in Pittsfield and that two suspects were captured by the ATM’s camera. Police said that the suspects may have fled west on Route 9 toward Windsor, according to the DA’s office.
State Police are working with Cummington Police on the investigation. Those with information can call the State Police Detective Unit at 413-773-3561.
