NORTHAMPTON — Richard Kerschner, a preventive conservator based in Vermont, worked in the exhibit gallery of Historic Northampton on Wednesday evaluating several signs removed from the Shepherd Barn, which is undergoing a renovation. Kerschner, who was the director of Preservation and Conservation at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont for 35 years, is advising on the condition of artifacts from the Shepherd Barn and the attention that they may need to be preserved or displayed. The museum will be closed until Feb. 8 so that the conservation work can take place in the gallery.
