■For the 10th year in a row, Williston Academy has captured the New England Prep School Swim Championship. Williston’s co-captain, Tom Marantz, shattered the existing New England and meet record for the 400-yard freestyle, winning in 3:53.6 to nip teammate Chris Stack at 3:53.7.
■Mayor Sean M. Dunphy updated members of the Ryan Road Parent-Teachers’ Organization on a proposed $400,000 Ryan Road School addition last night and covered everything from neighborhood sewer installation to damaged mailboxes and bomb scares in a question-and-answer period. The mayor said that within the next six years an additional school will be built in the Burts Pit and Ryan Road area.
■A2Z Science and Learning Store, a longtime anchor tenant of Thornes Marketplace, is planning to move out of the popular Main Street shopping complex. Jack Finn, co-owner with his wife Priscilla, of the 10-year-old store, has signed a purchase-and-sale agreement for the former Store 24 building at 57 King St.
■The apartment complex on New South Street downtown, behind the Academy of Music, is now being remodeled by the Valley Community Development Corp. as affordable housing. The large structure is getting a new foundation and has been gutted for a full renovation.
■Members of the Tibetan-American Community of Amherst and Northampton and 5 College Students for a Free Tibet stacked flag-draped coffins on the steps of Northampton City Hall after marching from the Amherst Town Common on Saturday. About 75 people took part in the Tibet Solidarity Peace March and rallies in both towns.
■Golden Moments, an adult day health spa, will open April 9 at the Florence Medical Center, 190 Nonotuck St. in Florence. Owner Sheryl Fappiano said the spa will provide a home-like environment for individuals with memory impairment and physical frailty.
