HATFIELD — Contested races could be developing for the School Committee, the Planning Board and the Board of Health at the May 17 town election, with less than a week to go to get nomination forms returned to the town clerk’s office.

Nomination forms must be picked up and returned by March 29 for a person’s name to be on the election ballot.

While incumbent Danielle Stanisewski is seeking a three-year term on School Committee and member Catherine J. Englehardt is looking to complete the remaining two years after being appointed to the committee last spring, Ann V. Valentine has pulled papers for both seats, but will have to decide which position to pursue.

For Planning Board, newcomers Virginia Mae Martell and David Leon Bell Jr. have pulled papers for the seat held by Paul S. Dostal, who is not running for reelection; while for Board of Health, incumbent Robert P. Osley and newcomer Timothy Joseph Menz both obtained nomination forms for a three-year seat.

Those who have already gotten on the ballot include incumbent Select Board member Diana Marie Szynal, for a three-year term; Robert Flaherty Jr., for a three-year position on Cemetery Commission; and Lydia Szych, for a one-year term as Elector under the Oliver Smith Will.

In addition, incumbent Stanley John Pitchko Jr. has pulled papers for a three-year seat on the Board of Assessors and incumbent Amy Goclowski has pulled papers for a three-year term as library trustee.

No one has yet gotten papers for a five-year term on the Hatfield Redevelopment Authority.
