■A dozen demonstrators walked up and down in front of the Hampshire County Courthouse yesterday, protesting the Vietnam War. The protest was purposefully planned for Good Friday, since, in the words of one participant, “Those people in Vietnam are being crucified right now.”

■The following girls have received membership pins and cards for Brownie Girl Scout Troop No. 386 in Huntington: Debbie LaPointe, Leslie Rondeau, Amy Michaud, Donna Dimer, Stephanie Fisk, Karen Olinski, Susan Budreau, Leah McCready, Laura Turney, and Tracy Sarafin.

■Hatfield native Erik Smith, 26, has always been interested in politics. But it’s not in the local Town Hall where you’ll find him talking issues. It’s in Washington, D.C., where Smith was just named deputy communications director for U.S. Rep. Richard Gephardt, D-Missouri. As House minority leader, Gephardt is a key figure in national politics.

■In a ceremony to be held in July, Easthampton Boy Scout John Joyce IV, who belongs to Boy Scout Troop 103 in Florence, will join his father, grandfather, an uncle and a brother in achieving Eagle Scout status. Joyce now plans to become a Scout leader after he turns 18, so he can earn Eagle palms.

■Fourteen Easthampton High School students will dance, strut, sing and don the garb of their favorite superhero next week in a quest to be named Mr. Easthampton. The annual pageant marks its sixth year Tuesday in the While Brook Middle School auditorium.

■Easthampton resident Kristen Davis, chef and co-owner at Popcorn Noir movie theater, said she is both excited and nervous to see her own face on the movie screen at the Theater April 10. The free theater is holding a private screening of “The Great Steak Challenge,” a national televised cook-off, and Davis is one of the 10 finalists who will compete for a $25,000 prize on the show.
