Florence, MA – Richard Slabinski, beloved husband and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2026 at age 89. He was born in Northampton, MA on March 11, 1937 to Mitchell and Delia (nee Kuklenski) Slabinski.
Richard was an Eagle Scout, achieved the Order of the Arrow, and was awarded the Silver Beaver award. He graduated from Northampton High School in 1955, and married Joan B. Ritter in 1957.
He joined the 104th Tactical Fighter Group in 1955, serving with the Massachusetts Air National Guard for 41 years. He achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and was also Senior Enlisted Advisor.
Richard leaves behind his loving wife, three sons, and their spouses: Richard Jr. and Heidi, Bruce and Barbara, Peter and Susannah. They have five grandchildren: Bruce Jr., Nichole, Tyler, Parker, Tanner as well as two great grandchildren, Caleb and Joshua.
Calling hours are Tuesday, April 14 from 4 to 6 PM at Czelusniak Funeral Home, 173 North St., Northampton MA. The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 15 at 10 am, at the Annunciation Chapel, 85 Beacon St., Florence MA. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Northampton.
