EASTHAMPTON — A house fire on Sunday afternoon displaced two families and drew an emergency response from several cities and towns, according to the Easthampton Fire Department.

The cause of the fire at 10 Dartmouth St., reported just after 4 p.m., is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal’s office.

First responders said smoke was pouring out of the top floor of the three-story house and all the occupants had gotten themselves out safely.

“Under the direction of Captain (Sean) O’Leary, crews made an interior attack and were able to contain the fire to the area of origin,” the department stated in a Facebook post. “The home sustained substantial smoke and water damage throughout the structure.”

Fire crews from Northampton, Southampton, Holyoke, South Hadley and the Barnes and Westover Air National Guard fire departments also responded, along with the Easthampton CERT team.

“Easthampton Fire Dispatch was exceptional during this incident and was a tremendous asset coordinating all of the resources during this time,” the Easthampton Fire Department stated. “Please keep the occupants in your thoughts during this difficult time for all of them.”

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced families.
