HATFIELD — A candle is the likely source of the Sunday afternoon fire that killed six dogs and three cats at a Hatfield home, according to the state fire marshal’s office.
A joint investigation, completed by the Hatfield Fire Department and State Police assigned to the state fire marshal’s office, found no evidence that the fire at 166 Depot Road was intentionally set, and that the most likely cause of the blaze was a candle, said spokesman Jake Wark.
A GoFundMe benefit called “Micki Curran House Fire Recovery” has been established by the homeowner’s daughter, Melissa Glynn. The GoFundMe page describes the home as a total loss and adds that, in addition to the dogs and cats, Curran also lost three turtles and is “left with only the clothes on her back.”
“We are working closely with her insurance company to figure out how to rebuild her home, but are quickly learning that this is going to be a very long and arduous process,” Glynn writes.
