BELCHERTOWN — A lieutenant in the Belchertown Police Department is on paid leave amid an ongoing investigation of him outside Hampshire County.
On Wednesday, the Police Department confirmed that Lt. Michael J. Beaupre is being investigated by the Worcester County district attorney’s office and has been on paid administrative leave for around six weeks.
“The subject of the investigation is not connected to his employment with the Belchertown Police Department,” David Squires, a department spokesperson, wrote in an email.
Squires referred all other questions to the Worcester County district attorney’s office, which declined to comment on Wednesday.
“We can’t confirm or deny the existence of an investigation,” said Scott Croteau, the deputy communications director for Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr.
Reached by telephone Wednesday, Beaupre did not respond to questions by a Gazette reporter. He did not respond to a subsequent voicemail message.
First hired as a part-time Belchertown police officer in 2007, Beaupre was appointed a full-time officer in 2008 and became sergeant in 2017. He was promoted to the lieutenant’s role last summer, according to the Police Department.
