WORTHINGTON – After bids came back that were higher than anticipated, the Select Board is working on bringing a significantly scaled down package of repairs to the R.H. Conwell Elementary School to Town Meeting.
“The quotes that are coming in are just astronomical,” said Select Board Chairwoman Amy Wang, speaking about the now abandoned major school renovation.
The town put the major renovation out to bid in February. The renovation would have included repairing the school’s roof. However, two bids, which were opened on March 31, were more than $800,000.
“I think a lot of people don’t want to bid up here,” said Wang.
Wang said that the Select Board is currently working on presenting a smaller scale of repairs to the annual Town Meeting, scheduled for May 7. She said that the biggest part of the proposed renovation would be rehab work on the front of the building that runs along Route 112.
