Another highly-touted Massachusetts prospect has made his way to Amherst.

Former Boston College forward Gianni Thompson is transferring to join the UMass men’s basketball program, his AAU team Mass Rivals Basketball tweeted over the weekend.

Thompson, a Newton native, was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and the top-rated prospect from Massachusetts, according to 247sports.com. That site rated him as the nation’s 116th-ranked player his senior year.

ESPN rated him Massachusetts’ No. 2 player and the No. 33 forward in the country.

With the Eagles last season as a freshman, the 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward averaged 1.3 points and 1.0 rebounds per game in just 7.5 minutes per contest. He appeared in 19 of BC’s 33 games.

Thompson is a former AAU teammate of South Carolina transfer Wildens Leveque, a South Carolina transfer that followed his former coach Frank Martin to UMass.

Martin has now brought in four transfers from the portal this spring: former Gamecocks Leveque and Ta’Quan Woodley, as well as UConn guard Rahsool Diggins.

Leveque was a junior last season, while Diggins, Woodley and Thompson were freshmen.
