HOLYOKE — An overnight fire at a Hampden Street home has displaced 10 people, though no injuries were reported.
In a statement, the Holyoke Fire Department said that it responded to 645 Hampden St. at around 12:09 a.m. on Wednesday. At the scene, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof.
The department said that all of the occupants of the two-story, four-family home were able to safely evacuate because they had working smoke alarms in their homes.
“The initial crews used handheld hose lines to extinguish the fire from inside the top floor, until the attic ceiling and sections of roof rafters began to collapse,” the department said in its statement, posted on its Facebook page. “The Firefighters were withdrawn and the fire was fully extinguished from outside using the aerial ladder nozzle.”
In total, two families and another three adults from other apartments were displaced — a total of 10 people.
The American Red Cross responded to assist the families, the department said.
