■Another summer of concerts-in-the-park is being planned by the MayorÕs Youth Commission. This year the Commission and others who are in on the planning of the rock concerts in Pulaski Park would like to see a better program assembled for the public to enjoy. Letters have been sent to various service clubs and organizations in the city asking for contributions to the series.
■Dist. Atty. John M. Callahan today announced the appointment of Francis E. Collins Jr. as Hampshire County District Court Prosecuting Attorney. Atty. Colins began his duties this morning. He is a member of the law firm of Dwyer and Collins.

■Jill Cronin Lesko has been named vice president of the King & Cushman Insurance Agency of Northampton. Lesko joined the firm as a customer service representative in 1983 and became office manager of the firm in 1990.
■Tomorrow will be the last day that letter carrier Roy Cooke will deliver the mail to the estimated 500 people on his route in Florence. The 56-year-old Cooke is retiring after working for the U.S. Postal Service for 29 years — all of them in Northampton.

An historic trolley waiting station was demolished this week on the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus without proper approval, a state agency says. The shelter on North Pleasant Street was taken down Tuesday by the firm constructing a new academic building, despite the fact that the state Division of Capital Asset Management wanted it to remain for now.
Peter Pan Bus Lines has pulled the plug on its struggling environmentally friendly taxi company after 18 months. Although the idea of Ògreen cabsÓ was attractive to many in the region, the business model proved ineffective and the company has been losing money since its inception, said Bob Schwarz, Peter PanÕs executive vice president.
