HADLEY – The fireworks started early.
East Longmeadow defeated Hadley-Amherst 22-16 to win the District 2 12U softball championship Friday at Hopkins Academy.
Hadley-Amherst rallied from a 4-0 deficit to take the lead 5-4 in the second before the Spartans put up nine runs in the top half of the third to take a 13-5 advantage. Hadley-Amherst responded with a 10-run inning of its own in the bottom half. East Longmeadow scored nine of the next 10 runs to leave Hadley with the title and sectional tournament berth.
Lucia Jacoby (two doubles) and Olivia Earle scored three runs each. Kiely Kinchla and Morgan Augusta each touched home twice and singled once, while Juliana Eichenlaub and Sylvan Cocco-Romano added two runs each.
WMass Suburban League Sandy Koufax Championship: Amherst 20, Ludlow 13 – Greg King drove in five runs and doubled twice while picking up the win on the mound in relief for Amherst in the home victory. Amherst’s Elijah Taylor drove in two runs.
Andrew Gagne tripled among his three hits for Amherst. Amherst’s Elyon Falk and Owen Eddy each drove in one run.
Sheffield Post 340 6, Belchertown Post 239 5 – Ty Gladu had two hits and two RBIs, but Belchertown fell for the first time in Senior American Legion play this season.
Jack Feltovic walked three times and scored two runs for Post 239. Belchertown’s Nate Mills doubled and scored a run.
DiFranco Realty 8, Teddy Bear 3 – Bryan Baumann had a triple among his two hits and scored a run for Teddy Bear in Tri-County League action.
Teddy Bear’s Andrew Serio drove in two runs with a single, while Pat Serio brought in another run with a sacrifice fly.
