FLORENCE — The swift response of multiple fire departments to a Florence home early Friday night helped minimize the damage of a structure fire.
Northampton Fire Rescue responded to a reported fire at 151 Greenleaf Drive at approximately 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, flames were visible in the rear of the house, according to Northampton Fire Deputy Chief Shawn Denkiewicz.
The majority of the fire was to the exterior of the structure, and it started to extend into the attic, he said. While one crew of firefighters was able to quickly extinguish the exterior fire, additional crews accessed the attic and cut a ventilation hole in the roof to prevent the fire from spreading.
In addition to Northampton Fire, firefighters from Easthampton, Hatfield, Amherst, Hadley, and the Williamsburg police and fire departments as well as South County EMS and Pioneer Valley EMS, responded.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was quickly extinguished and damage to the interior was minimized, said Denkiewicz, who estimated the the fire caused an estimated $125,000 in damages. The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
