HOLYOKE — Law enforcement officials in Holyoke say they have identified the victim of a shooting homicide that happened on Monday on North Summer Street.
Holyoke police responded Monday at around 2:11 a.m. to “the area of the 30-40 block of North Summer Street” after a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police say they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound who later died of his injuries. On Wednesday, the Hampden district attorney’s office announced that officials have identified 33-year-old Richard Roman-Santiago of Holyoke as the victim.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing, according to the DA’s office.
The shooting death is the second this month in Holyoke.
On Monday, another city resident — 21-year-old Elijah Melendez — was arraigned on a murder charge in connection with the body of an 18-year-old found in the Connecticut River with an apparent gunshot wound.
