HOLYOKE — Police say they have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old city resident on Monday.
In a statement, the Hampden district attorney’s office said that on Wednesday, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for city resident Alex Marrero, 32, in connection with the alleged homicide of Richard Roman-Santiago. Marrero appeared in Holyoke District Court on Thursday, though he has not yet entered a plea.
On Monday at around 2:11 a.m., police responded to a call reporting a shooting on North Summer Street, where they found Roman-Santiago suffering from gunshot wounds. He later died of his injuries.
Law enforcement’s arrest of Marrero is the second arrest this month of a suspect in connection to a homicide.
On July 14, police arrested 21-year-old city resident Elijah Melendez on a murder charge in connection with the alleged shooting death of Elis Vizzcarrondo, 18, whose body was found in the Connecticut River.
