PLAINFIELD — The Select Board has scheduled a special meeting Monday, after canceling a July 20 special meeting, following an Open Meeting Law complaint filed by a Gazette reporter.

The July 25, 7 p.m. meeting at Town Hall has three agenda items: approving the minutes for the board’s July 12 meeting, discussing an Open Meeting Law complaint, and determining whether to vote to enter into executive session.

The reason given for going into executive session posted on the agenda is “To discuss the reputation, character, physical condition or mental health, rather than professional competence, of an individual, or discuss the discipline or dismissal of, or complaints or charges brought against, a public officer, employee, staff member or individual.”

This is one of the 10 purposes outlined under the state’s Open Meeting Law allowed for a body to go into executive session.

The agenda posted for the canceled Wednesday meeting had as its only agenda item determining whether to go into executive session. It did not state the reason for going into executive session as required under the law.

Select Board Chairman Patrick Williamson, wrote in an email that the original meeting was canceled and a new one was scheduled and posted. He declined a phone interview to elaborate further.
