HOLYOKE — A motorist on Route 202 was killed in a collision Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle crash at around 8 a.m., Holyoke Police Capt. Matthew Moriarty said in a statement.

“The initial caller stated a car and truck were involved,” Moriarty said.

The driver of the car was killed, Hampden District Attorney’s Office spokesman James Leydon said.

Police closed off part of Route 202 — also known as Westfield Road — between Homestead Avenue and Apremont Highway due to the crash, which they said occurred near Ashley Reservoir.

Law enforcement released few other details about the crash Wednesday afternoon.

The district attorney’s office said that an investigation into the collision is ongoing, with Holyoke and state police working the case together with the DA’s office’s motor vehicle homicide unit.
