■Dr. Norman Brown recently became an associate of Drs. Richard Berkman and George Young, Northampton internists. Dr. Brown’s office is located at 16 Center St. He received his medical degree in 1965 from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

■A Northampton doctor is in satisfactory condition in Calgary, Alberta, Canada hospital two weeks after a mountain climbing accident which ended in death for two of his companions. Dr. Donald H. Sprecker of Prospect Street suffered from a compound fracture of one leg and multiple fractures of the other.

■The Globe Bookshop will close at month’s end, after years of financial losses that strained its owner’s resources and inspired offers of support from patrons. Owner Mark Brumberg said today that with inventory low and prospects bleak, he is forced to shut the 16-year-old Pleasant Street store.

■Singers with the city’s popular Young at Heart Chorus are preparing to embark on a performance trip unlike any to date — one that will take them across the Atlantic and into the concert halls of Holland. The chorus has been asked to represent the U.S. at the Rotterdam Music Festival.

■The Sheldon Family Association’s 73rd annual reunion in Northampton marks a homecoming for the clan as they return to the home and resting place of their ancestor, Isaac Sheldon, an original colonial settler of the town. The reunion will take place Sunday through Wednesday.

■The Northampton City Council took another stand in support of workers last month when it threw its collective support behind a resolution that backs the right to organize and bargain collectively. The measure come nearly three years after the council adopted a resolution urging employers to pay a living wage.
