■For the first time since it opened several months ago at Routes 9 and 143, the Doo-Dah Family Saloon will be without a live band tonight. The situation comes as a result of action taken Monday by the selectmen to suspend the club’s live entertainment license.
■A booth to provide tourists with information about things to see and do in the Pioneer Valley may be built along the southbound lane of Route 91 in Bernardston. The federal government might contribute 90% of the costs of the booth, and the state, the remaining 10%.
■Meline Kasparian, 57, of Amherst, president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and a longtime activist in Democratic Party politics, died Friday of cancer. She was remembered by friends and colleagues for her strength of character, and her dedication to education.
■Amherst celebrated Farm Festival ’97 Saturday, when visitors throughout the Pioneer Valley and beyond had a chance to see what goes on at eight of the town’s farms and agricultural businesses.
■Inspired by the colorful Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls, Northampton Ward 6 City Councilor Marianne LaBarge decided the city should have one as well. For the past six years, LaBarge has cared for flowers on the Loudville Bridge, located on Route 66 near the Westhampton border. This year, a small group of volunteers has begun to nurture the flowers, so that they can be enjoyed by the whole community.
■Daniel Lee Polachek recently became licensed in Massachusetts as a certified public accountant. A member of the firm of Daniel W. Polachek PC, he is in practice with his father, Daniel W. Polachek. He joined the firm as a staff accountant in 2007.
