GREENFIELD – Senator Elizabeth Warren will visit Franklin County Saturday morning with a stop at Greenfield Community College, where she plans to host a town hall and meet and greet with her constituents.

“We’re really excited for it,” said Keith Bailey, director of grants and government relations at Greenfield Community College. “We’re the only institute of higher education in Franklin County, and as such, we serve as a really important hub for community action and resources.”

The town hall will take place on the Core Patio, with seating starting at 10 a.m. and Warren beginning the event at 10:30 a.m., according to her office. The public is encouraged to participate in the free event, as Warren will answer questions from those in attendance.

“We’re very excited to welcome Sen. Elizabeth Warren to Greenfield Community College,” GCC President Michelle Schutt said in a statement. “Warren’s an incredibly influential figure in politics in Massachusetts, the country and the world. We’re honored that she has chosen our campus as a location to meet with people of the region and have an open and productive dialogue about today’s issues.”

Warren, who was elected in 2018 to serve a second term, became the first woman from Massachusetts to serve in the Senate when she was elected in 2012. The Cambridge resident also has 30 years of experience as a professor of law.

Bailey said he was approached by Warrens’ western Massachusetts aide, regarding the feasibility of the site for the senator to hold a town hall and meet and greet during her recess from Congress.

“With the pandemic and not being able to have people on site for that first year and a half … this will be a really exciting way to serve as sort of a waypoint, or a marker, to really indicate to the community at large that we’re here and we’re open again … as a community resource,” he said.

Bailey said the topics covered at the event will be at the discretion of Warren. He noted, however, that she has always been responsive to the needs of the community college.

“We’re very excited to be able to bring both Franklin County and the larger community in western Mass to our campus again,” he said.

Those attending the event are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for seating. On-site parking is available without charge.
