SOUTH DEERFIELD – The Howard siblings helped the Frontier Regional cross country program pull a clean sweep at home Wednesday.
Luke Howard crossed the finish line first in the boys race in 16 minutes, 8 seconds.
“I was just running my own race, pretty much,” he said.
Abigail Howard took the girls race in 18:42, edging her teammate Leah Gump during the race’s final phase – a lap around the track. Gump was second in 18:48.
“This year me and Leah have been very close in pacing, which I think is very helpful when it comes to not only disciplining yourself but disciplining each other,” Abigail Howard said. “When it comes to training and especially in meets, it’s really beneficial.”
The Redhawks went 3-0 in the boys meets, beating Mahar 15-45, Hopkins Academy 15-48 and McCann Tech 19-38.
Frontier’s Evan Hedlun was second in 16:40 followed by his teammate Erich Brown (17:00). Amory Maxey crossed the line in sixth (17:53) just ahead of his fellow Redhawk Oliver Brown (seventh), who received the same time.
Chris Rex was Hopkins Academy’s first boy to finish in ninth (18:37). Nicky Potter followed in 18th (21:53), Jackson Graham in 22nd (23:34), Tucker Russell in 23rd (23:35) and Grand Donta Vermen in 31st (26:27).
The Golden Hawks beat Mahar 25-26 but fell 17-43 against McCann Tech.
On the girl side, Frontier triumphed over Hopkins 15-49 and Mahar 15-48. Mahar bested the Golden Hawks 26-30. The Redhawks swept the top five spots. Nicolo Plasse finished third (19 :35), Bianca Peura fourth (20:07) and Sasha Malo fifth (20:26).
Captrial DiBartolomao led the Golden Hawks in seventh (21:30).
Aurora Derra-Vernon was 17th (24:03), Jayce Langaforno 23rd, 25:39), Cora White 27th (27;22) and Peyton Graham 30th (30:51).
Northampton 16, Minnechaug 46 — The Blue Devils controlled the top four places to win their home opener. Teddy King-Pollet won the boys race in 18:01. Jude Mourad was second(18:30), Davis Wheat third (18:41) and Isaac Roth fourth (18:41). Jack Kamins rounded out the Northampton scoring in sixth (19:03).
PVCICS 15 Hampden 50; PVCICS 24 Mohawk 31; PVCICS 28 Southwick 29 — Kyan Frantz ran a 18:39 on the 5k course to win the meet for the Dragons, which swept all three opponents at Hampshire College.
Grafton Tolopko (18:47) placed second overall, and Gaius Turner (20:51) and Thomas Nusselein (21:44) rounded out the top ten in eighth and ninth, respectively.
Northampton 17, Minnechaug 44 — The Blue Devils swept the top three positions to win their home opener. Norah Reade crossed the line first in 21:09 followed by Anna Zamer in second (21:56) and Tess Geis-Benton in third (22:07). Lily Zamer was fifth (22:39) and Elizabeth McDonough sixth (23:14).
PVCICS 15 Hampden 50; PVCICS 38 Mohawk 28 ; PVCICS 32 Southwick 23 – PVCICS bested Hampden but fell to Mohawk and Southwick in the four-team meet at Hampshire College.
Sarah Fardal ran a 24:00 race to earn fifth while teammate Ella Maier placed seventh with a 25:51.
Granby 1, Pioneer 0 — Jonathan Santiago scored in the second half to deliver a victory for the Rams. Riley Goodhind assisted the tally for Granby (2-0).
Hopkins Academy 4, Greenfield 0 — The Golden Hawks put away three goals in the first half of a home win. Teddy Cyr contributed two assists and a goal for Hopkins Academy (2-2. 1-2 Schmid).
Hopkins Academy’s James Anderson, Patrick Fitzgibbons and Dominic Aloisi also found the net, while Leidson Miranda added an assist.
Ryder Gallo-O’Connell kept out all four Greenfield shots to keep a clean sheet.
Williston 4, Berkshire 3 — Max Fujimori notched a goal and two assists for the Wildcats. Hakim Karamoko scored twice. Gianluca Lanzilli found the net once for Williston, while Danny Argueta had an assist.
Franklin Tech 7, PVCICS 0 — Pom-Richard Ang turned away seven shots for the Dragons.
Amherst 1, Easthampton 0 — Brooke Weinman saved three shots to help ensure a home win for the Hurricanes.
Eleanor Jacoby scored the Amherst winner 21 minutes in from Alicha Perez.
Easthampton goalie Addie Barr made eight saves.

Frontier 7, SICS 2 — The Redhawks built a 3-1 lead going into the half before tacking four more goals on the board in the final 40 minutes to earn a Pioneer North League win in South Deerfield.
Jillian Worden led the offensive charge with a hat trick for Frontier. Maddie Fagan scored twice while Kylie Laford and Molly Gates also scored. Fagan (2), Hannah Mackin, Laford, Jazzlyn Hayes, Maddie Bennett and Sydney Tor had the Redhawk assists while Cady Wells-Robinson made four saves in the win.
Holyoke 9, Renaissance 2 — Treyana Ayala and Emma Puza put in two goals with an assist each for the Purple Knights on the road. Olivia Kaifer also scored twice for Holyoke. Veronica Colon distributed three assists.
Emma Shoup (assist), Yasani Thompson and Kayshaly Garcia each found the net once. Jaylene Moquin had one assist.
Belchertown 11, Palmer 0 – Abigail Olden registered four kills and two assists for the Orioles.
Bella Cebula and Edith Audette each had two kills and two assists for Belchertown (3, while Karyna Rondeau (assist), Lauren Cooper and Mya Philpott each found the net once. Belchertown’s Alena Karabestos and Molly Mazzaferro each contributed an assist.
The Orioles defense didn’t allow a shot on goal.
Belchertown 21, Frontier 3; Belchertown 21½, Ware 2½ — Michael Murray and Brady Perkins shared the tri-match medalist honors with 1-over 37s. Both went 2-0 at Cold Spring Country Club.
Five of six Belchertown golfers won both of their matches.
Murray took down Frontier’s Alex Gochinski (4-0) and Ware’s Chris Vadnais (3½-1½) at No. 2.
At No. 3, Henry Poissant swept Frontier’s Cam Skiffington (4-0) and Ware’s Jos Mulligan (3½-1½).
Perkins was perfect at No. 4 against Frontier’s Cade Allenby (4-0) and Ware’s Owen Welsh (4-0).
Belchertown No. 5 Tyler McDonald won 4-0 against Frontier’s Addy Wood and Ware’s Ethan Flamane.
Jared Haynes closed it out at No. 6 against Frontier’s Gab Solodky (4-0) and Ware’s Philip Orosulak (4-0).
Frontier’s Ryan Cetto edged Belchertown No. 1 Riley Breen 3-1, but Breen handled Ware’s Mason Harper 2½-1½.
South Hadley 17, Amherst 7 — Piet Hartman earned the medalist honors for the Hurricanes with a 38, but the Tigers prevailed at Amherst Golf Club.
South Hadley controlled the bottom of the lineup and earned enough points at the top to pull ahead. Austin Deren (No. 3) beat Amherst’s Jay Johnson 4-0. At No. 5, John Viola prevailed 4-0 for the Tigers over Zach Mitrowski. Sean Whalen sealed things up at No. 6 by beating Oliver Hansell 4-0.
At No. 2, South Hadley’s Nic Hartley and Amherst’s Nate Hawkins tied 2-2. Amherst’s Ben Scott and South Hadley’s Bennett Allen tied 2-2 at No. 2.
Hartman defeated South Hadley No. 1 Ryan MacGregor 3-1.
Northampton 22, Chicopee Comp 2 — Galen Fowles and Reilly Fowles shared the medalist honor with 40s at Chicopee Country Club. Galen defeated Pacers no. 1 Bryce Trumbull 3-1, while Reilly swept Jack Seymour 4-0 at No. 2.
Northampton’s Ben O’Connor (No. 4), Gus Fallon (No. 5) and Annalisa Agliati (No. 6), each won 4-0, while No. 3 Jack Mattison-Gulotta prevailed 3-1.
Franklin Tech 22½, Easthampton 1½ — Eagles No. 2 Connor Perreault picked up a point in a 3-1 loss to Alex Sulda, while No. 1 Tanner Kmetz earned half a point against Brady Booska.
Hampshire 22, St. Mary’s 2 — Hampshire’s Levi Zielinski was the medalist against St. Mary’s on Wednesday, shooting a 41 and winning his match 3-1 as the Raiders earned a dominant win.
Four other golfers from Hampshire shot under 50 in their matches – Brayden Fennessy (46), Owen Lech (46), Camden Jarosz (48) and Pryden Messier (49). Desmond Galpin (54) also won his match 4-0.
Smith Vocational 3, Hampden Charter 0 — After a dramatic first set that came down to the wire, Smith Vocational handily dispatched Hampden Charter in the next two sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-10).
Heidymar Diaz-Lopez was on point again for the Vikings, posting 11 aces and six digs along with four kills. Jaycee Beaulieu finished with eight aces and 16 assists and Jaylen Kulas and Kora Kelly each had five kills.
