Last week on a rainy evening I took a left off Hockanum Road southbound on Pleasant Street. I ran into a curbed narrowing of the street which was just built to flank the new asphalt bike lane. I was shocked to run into the granite curb which faces oncoming traffic. It acts as an unexpected constriction of the roadway.
Fortunately, I only lost a front tire. Today, several days later, my leaking damaged tire was being inflated in my driveway by AAA. The AAA service person informed me that he had very recently attended to two other accidents involving motorists running into this curbed feature. This week, I found the raised feature to have two plastic safety cones at each end. They were absent last week.
The construction site wasn’t marked last week. This currently hazardous feature needs to modified or eliminated for the safety of motorists.
