TURNERS FALLS — Franklin Tech sophomore McKenzie Sourdiffe-Masse tallied four goals, and the defending champion Eagles punched a return ticket to the Western Mass. Class D title game thanks to a 5-0 win over Hampshire Regional in the semifinal round on Thursday.
No. 2 Franklin Tech will play top-seeded Pioneer in the Class D final Monday night at 5:30 p.m. at Holyoke High School. It’s a rematch of last year’s sectional final, which the Eagles won for the program’s first-ever WMass title.
Sourdiffe-Masse helped ensure the Eagles would get back to the final. She tallied a hat trick in the first half, and added a fourth goal in the second half as Tech built a 4-0 halftime lead.
Thursday’s semifinal tilt was the third game in 10 days between Franklin Tech and Hampshire. The County League foes played Oct. 18 and 19, with the Eagles earning a 2-0 win to go with a 2-2 tie.
Goalie Olivia Labrie made nine saves in net for the third-seeded Raiders, which closed out its regular season slate with a 7-7-4 record. Hampshire Regional now awaits its seed and matchup for the MIAA Div. 4 state tournament, expected to be released early next week.
East Longmeadow 6, Northampton 0 — The No. 2 Spartans jumped on the No. 3 Blue Devils early, scoring twice in the first quarter before tacking four goals on in the second half as Northampton suffered a 6-0 loss in the Class B tournament Thursday.
Emma Gosselin and Grace Gile each scored twice for East Longmeadow. Charlotee Johnson-Mersack made 14 saves in the loss for the Blue Devils.
Northampton now awaits its opponent in the MIAA Div. 2 state tournament.
Greenfield 8, South Hadley 0 — The No. 2 Green Wave eliminated the third-seeded Tigers in the Class C semifinals on Thursday in Greenfield.
Greenfield raced ahead early and didn’t look back, pulling away with an 8-0 victory to advance to the finals, where it awaits the winner of No. 1 Frontier and No. 4 Southwick, who square off Friday.
The sectional final is set for Monday night at Holyoke High School (7:15 p.m.).
Grace Laurie, Lillia Kachelmeyer and McKenzie Boswell each scored twice for the Green Wave.
Amaya Dunn made 26 saves for South Hadley on the afternoon.
