I was taken aback by the inference in the letter “Awed by decisions our leaders make,” (Nov. 17). The writer appears to be comparing subsidizing those with limited (or no) income via providing nutritional support to tossing picnic scraps to wildlife. It is far from a “judgement call” to increase food stamp allotments and food distribution in our current inflationary times. Both those living paycheck to paycheck and those on fixed incomes need that assistance and shouldn’t be reluctant to seek it. We should be proud to live in a society that has always sought to take care of the less fortunate; rather than taking an elitist attitude about it.
