Haydenville Congregational to hold Christmas eve service

HAYDENVILLE — Haydenville Congregational Church will hold an inter-generational Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24.

The service will include a reflection by Rev. Matilda Rose Cantwell, director of Religious and Spiritual Life at Smith College, as well as carols, readings and special music by the choir under the direction of Adam Simon. The service will close with everyone singing “Silent Night” holding up candles in the darkened church sanctuary. All are welcome.

Interfaith group to hold holiday dinner at The Teapot

NORTHAMPTON — The St. Francis Interfaith Community invites people to have a holiday dinner at The Teapot Chinese restaurant, 116 Main St., at 5 p.m. on Dec. 25.

For those who can’t afford the dinner, St. Francis has some scholarships available. Rides may also be a possibility. Agnostics and atheists are more than welcome.

HCC to hold
special registration express days
Jan. 7, 9

HOLYOKE — Holyoke Community College will host two special “Registration Express” days for the spring 2023 semester, one on Saturday, Jan. 7, and another on Monday, Jan. 9, when prospective students can apply for admission, take the college placement test, meet with an academic adviser, register for classes, and set up financial aid — all in one day.

HCC’s Saturday event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Monday event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Registration Express takes place on the first floor of the Campus Center on the main campus at 303 Homestead Ave. and virtually over Zoom.

The spring semester begins Tuesday, Jan 17. HCC also has flex start dates on Feb. 6 and March 20. Full-term spring classes run for 14 weeks.

Holyoke to observe Kwanzaa

HOLYOKE — Kwanzaa, an annual celebration of African American culture, will be observed in the city from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.

Mayor Joshua A. Garcia will host a gathering in City Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m., to acknowledge the occasion. The mayor also will issue a proclamation designating Kwanzaa Week. Ayanna Crawford and Amilicar Shabazz, among others, will present a program that will include a history of Kwanzaa and the lighting of the Kinara. The public is invited.

Public viewing of ‘Cycle of Memory’ at Pelham library

PELHAM — The Pelham Council on Aging and Pelham Public Library will hold an intergenerational screening of “Cycle of Memory” on Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. The new award-winning documentary is about two siblings’ bicycle adventure to find the memories their grandfather lost to Alzheimer’s. A snow date is Jan. 21.

The film is 72 minutes long and will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the filmmaker.
