New Chesterfield phone book

CHESTERFIELD — A new Chesterfield Telephone Book from the Friends of the Library will be ready for sale by the end of June, and the group is asking residents to provide their information to be listed in the book. The deadline for listing is March 15.

To enter information, residents can visit medeus.net/phone, email warlowharry@gmail.com, or call Kessie at 413-923-1780. Information needed includes name, both street and mailing address including a P.O. Box if applicable, and telephone numbers residents want to list for their address.

The Friends of the Chesterfield Library helps fund library programs for children and adults. In the past they have purchased computers, helped to start access to CWMars (the inter-library lending system), and purchased DVDs, books and museum passes.

In the past, residents loved the local telephone book which has easy access to friends’ numbers and mailing addresses, as well as a myriad of local businesses who advertise and support the library.

Hibernian Communion Breakfast set for March 12

HOLYOKE — The Hibernians of Hampden/Hampshire Counties invite the public to attend the annual Communion Breakfast in conjunction with the festivities surrounding the 2023 Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade. The event will be held Sunday, March 12. Mass will be at 8 a.m. at St Jerome’s Church, Holyoke, the breakfast will follow at The Wyckoff Country Club, 233 Easthampton Road.

Brenda Lamagdeleine, manager for Providence Ministries for the Needy, will receive the 2023 Hibernian Christian Charity Award. The award is given to that person who “truly seeks to improve the lives of the people of Hampden/Hampshire Counties.”

Featured speaker will be William B. Evans, executive director of public safety and chief of police of Boston College. Evans is a former Boston police commissioner during the Boston Marathon Bombings.

The master of ceremonies is Nora McMahon.

Reservations are required by March 7 by calling attorney John J. Driscoll at 413-534-0445. Tickets are $25 per person.

State gets $1.4M to increase seniors’ access to local food

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources has been awarded $1,410,222 to expand the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. The award was granted by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service from American Rescue Plan Act funds.

The grant will allow the state agency to increase the level of benefit for seniors participating in the program from $25 to $50, as well as serving an additional 2,300 seniors and disabled individuals over the next two years.

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is a seasonal, annual program providing low-income seniors with coupons to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, fresh-cut herbs, and honey from Massachusetts farmers. Every year, coupons are spent at over 300 farmers’ markets and farmstands across the state.

Sen. Mark office hours for Hampshire County

WILLIAMSBURG — State Sen. Paul W. Mark’s staff will conduct office hours in Williamsburg on the second and fourth Tuesdays, March 14 and March 28, from 1-3 p.m., in the town offices at 141 Main St.

Residents of any of the 57 municipalities in the Senator’s Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin, and Hampshire District are encouraged to ask for assistance with issues involving any state agency or to share ideas on current or potential state legislation. Appointments are not needed.
