AMHERST — An information session on the Fresh Air Fund’s Pioneer Valley chapter, which brings children from underserved communities in New York City to experience summer in a rural setting, is being held Sunday afternoon.
Jeanne Espositio, a Fresh Air Fund representative, is holding the session and pool party for current, past and future host families in South Amherst. Also part of the event, running from 1 to 5 p.m., will be Susan Morello, another resident, volunteer leader and longtime Fresh Air host family.
The event will include swimming in an above-ground pool and light refreshments, a meeting of host families to share their experiences and more information about the Friendly Towns Program.
Since its founding in 1877, The Fresh Air Fund, a not-for-profit youth development organization, has provided free life-changing summer experiences in the outdoors to more than 1.8 million children. These young people also participate in year-round leadership, career exploration and educational programs.

NORTHAMPTON — To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Calvin Coolidge’s presidency, the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library and Museum at Forbes Library in Northampton will host an afternoon of 1920s history, music, and food on Saturday from 2-4 p.m.
On Aug. 2, 1923, Vice President Coolidge was vacationing at his father’s farm in Plymouth Notch, Vermont when he was notified by telegram of the death of President Harding. On Aug. 3, 1923 at 2:47 a.m., Coolidge was sworn in by his father, Colonel John Coolidge, a notary public. In 1924, Coolidge would be elected for one term of his own and serve until March 1929.
Sunday’s event will include a concert on the library lawn with 1920s inspired music by Northampton band the O-Tones. Plymouth Cheese made in the former factory of the president’s father next to his childhood home and 1920s inspired mocktails will be served. Pork apple and butterscotch hand pies, favorite flavors of President and Mrs. Coolidge made by the Florence Pie Bar will be for sale.
A new 12 minute introductory film about Calvin Coolidge by Northampton photographer and filmmaker Stan Sherer will debut in the Coolidge Museum.
In case of rain, events will be held inside.
