EASTHAMPTON — Easthampton City Arts (ECA), the public art committee, planning department, and public works department are seeking proposals for a new environmentally-focused public art installation to be established in the New City Neighborhood near Emerald Place.
Working with neighborhood residents, the public art committee, and the City Project Team, the selected artist/designer will create a design plan addressing the local impacts of climate change and/or environmental impacts.
The design phase of the project is funded by a $5,000 Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Action Grant from the state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. The MVP grants support communities in improving resilience to climate change.
The selected artist/designer will spend three months conducting historical and environmental research, collaborating with the City Project team and neighborhood residents, and crafting a preliminary design, before the final schematic design and cost estimates are due at the end of April.
Potential types of artwork or designs that may emerge for the project include: sculpture, ground mural, bench, bike rack, fencing, mosaic art, educational signs, storm drain covers, among many others.
The next phase of fabrication and installation, which will total around $10,000, will involve the artist/designer either fabricating the work themselves, or providing guidance to a chosen creator.

WESTHAMPTON — Pre-registration soon opens for the town’s annual Household Hazardous Waste collection, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Westhampton Transfer Station, located at 58 Hathaway Road.
According to the Hilltown Resource Management Cooperative (HRMC), Hilltown residents can bring pesticides, insect sprays, rodent killers, used motor oil, fertilizers, cleaners, paint, kerosene, old gasoline and more, with a 25-gallon limit.
The HRMC also lists what not to bring, including empty containers, latex paint, pharmaceuticals, medical waste, fireworks, flares, propane tanks, lightbulbs and batteries.
Pre-registration is required, and will be open from Oct. 1-16. Residents can pre-register by calling 413-685-5498 or emailing hrmc@hrmc-ma.org with your name, town, and phone number.
The HRMC administrator will also offer pre-registration and distribute registration forms in person on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Chesterfield Transfer Station located at 69 Willcutt Road.
WESTHAMPTON — With Halloween just around the corner, the Westhampton Halloween Committee is looking for volunteers for holiday festivities.
On Halloween evening, Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., all children through eighth grade are invited to participate in trick-or-treating.
A parade, led by the fire department, will begin at the Hampshire Regional High School parking lot and continue toward the center of town where there will be designated trick-or-treat spots.
Donations in the amount of 50-60 pieces of candy per participating child can be dropped off at Westhampton Elementary School, Westhampton Public Library and Outlook Farm before Oct. 27.
Hampshire Regional students looking for community service hours, and anyone else who’d like to participate, are encouraged to volunteer to hand out candy or run a game with trick-or-treaters. Those interested can reach out to Caralyn Whipple at 860-608-3948 or Lynn Fournier at 413-977-6984.
Roads closed for the event include Stage Road, North Road, South Road, Burt Road and Tob Hill Road.
EASTHAMPTON — The annual Harvest Fest at Nonotuck Park will be held on Oct. 8 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Held by the parks and recreation department, the free event includes a pumpkin carving contest, live music, food trucks, inflatable slides, balloon twisting, games, face painting, craft and artist vendors, and horse-drawn wagon rides.
