■The Private Schools Division and Clubs and Organizations Division of the Hampshire United Way will this year be under the direction of Daniel P. Griffin and William E. Lamprey, respectively, it was announced today by Ralph J. Levy Jr., general campaign chairman. Griffin is associate director of development at Clarke School for the Deaf, and Lamprey is personal loan officer for the Northampton Institution for Savings.

■Each of the three urban renewal plans revealed last night at a public meeting of the Northampton Redevelopment Authority would expand present city parking by up to 250 spaces. The plans call for expanded parking in the downtown area and creation of an 11.7-acre park south of Hampton Avenue.

■The Hampshire County Red Cross is throwing a party Saturday — its 83rd annual meeting. Vernon Reed, regional executive officer of the National Red Cross, will speak at the meeting. The local chapter will also honor two long-time blood drive volunteers. Both Roma Donais and Vivian Eastman will receive Exceptional Volunteer Awards.

■Despite torrential rains Saturday and cool weather Sunday, the people who showed up this weekend looked upon the fourth annual Paradise City Arts Festival, well, as paradise. The city arts festival was started four years ago by Linda and Geoffrey Post of Northampton, a husband-and-wife team.

■Northampton’s Pulaski Day celebration honoring all things Polish is gearing up for its 27th march through downtown Monday with a parade that is about double that of past year. The number of expected marchers is nearly 300, up from last year’s 150.

■Three Amherst businesses earned honors this week for their efforts to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities. The Atkinson Family Medical Center, the South Amherst Veterinary Hospital, and the Lumber Yard restaurant have been recognized with access awards by Stavros Center for Independent Living.
