
The Frontier girls volleyball team is back in a Western Mass. final.
The top-seeded Redhawks cruised to a 25-16, 25-17, 25-17 sweep of No. 4 Belchertown in the Class B semifinals on Wednesday night at Goodnow Gymnasium.
The Hawks will play either No. 2 Wahconah or No. 3 Baystate Academy in Saturdayโs title match, set for noon at Chicopee Comp. Those teams play in a semifinal on Thursday.
Allie Pierce recorded 30 assists and four aces in the victory for Frontier (16-5). Caroline Deane had the hot hand offensively, as she went for 15 kills and four aces, while Gabby Adams put down eight kills and added a team-high 15 digs.
Emilie Candelaria and Kate DeMaio tossed in five kills apiece for the Hawks, and Olivia Machon registered five aces.ย
Chrissy Santiago led the way offensively with five kills for Belchertown while Gianna Picardiย put down four and Ava Shea added three.
Paige Magner, Sophia Parro, and Vivian Ross each had an ace, Ross facilitated the offense with 15 assists, and four players (Shea, Santiago, Magner, and Ross) recorded at least eight digs on defense.
Lenox 3,ย Easthampton 0 โ After a testing three-set win over Smith Voc in the Class C quarterfinals on Monday, the second-seeded Eaglesโ Western Mass. tournament run concluded Wednesday night, droppingย a straight-set sweep to the third-seeded Millionaires.
Easthampton came out strong, pushing the first set past 25, but couldnโt find a rhythm after that. Set scores were 27-25, 25-11, 25-12.
Kayley Downie led the defense with 26 digs, Erin Teague tallied 12 assists, and Kaelin Damon (four) and Katelyn Martin (four) combined for eight kills to carry the load offensively. Damon added 14 digs, and Emersyn Nadinย dug up 10 balls of her own.
Kierra Carson chipped in two kills and a dig, Sophia Faginskiย did a bit of everything with two aces, two digs, and two blocks, and Liddie Buttrickย put down a kill while totaling six digs.
Lenox moves on to play either Franklin Tech or Mount Greylock in the Class C championship on Saturday.
