I’m (Sharon) a retired ARHS chemistry teacher. We are long-term Amherst residents and parents of a student who was educated (K-12) in the Amherst public schools.

Like many of you, we have watched the recent Amherst regional schools news with considerable dismay, and we recognize the immediate need for strong leadership. To that end, we are writing in support of our neighbor (and friend) Deb Leonard, who is running for Amherst School Committee. While Deb is new to running for an elected office in Amherst, she has lived in Amherst and has been involved in the town since 1985; her three children attend/attended Amherst schools.

Deb is intelligent, thoughtful, caring, practical, and resourceful. She’s a good listener and an analytical thinker who is simultaneously capable of discerning detail while cognizant of the overall picture.

Perhaps most importantly in this context, she will bring her experience from the inside at every level — as an educator, parent, ARPS employee and volunteer, and citizen. She is capable of making difficult decisions, and she will be the voice of reason and partnership Amherst needs right now.

On Nov. 7, we strongly urge you to cast your vote for Deb — for the sake of our students, our schools and teachers, and our town.
